So the mail arrives yesterday. There is the usual panoply of bills, mailers, and calls for donations to various charities. And then there is this:
So I think, hey now that is pretty awesome. Lots of publishers don’t send second books of trilogies to reviewers, even if you reviewed the first book. Its good business practice and saves money. Then I turn the book over to look at the blurbs on the back, and I stare in disbelief.
I’m blurbed! On a book that is undoubtedly going to be on many a bestseller list. That’s awesome! So I’m already pretty stoked, right? Then I do something I usually don’t and I flip through the first few pages. And what do I find but this:
Signed. SIGNED! Personalized and signed, and sent by mail to a reviewer. This has never happened to me before. No publisher I have worked with, even when they used my review for blurbs, has ever, EVER, made sure that I got a signed, personalized copy of a book. EVER. To say I am ecstatic would be understating the case. I feel honored, blessed, and extremely grateful to Brent Weeks and Orbit for taking the time and effort from their busy schedules to see that a little old reviewer like me gets something special.
Thank you very much to everyone who made this happen for me! You made my year! I think the only thing that could top this this year will be the birth of my firstborn in a couple weeks.
