Entertainment Weekly, in conjunction with the book’s publisher, has announced the release date of the fifth book of George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Dance with Dragons.
A Dance With Dragons will be published on July 12. The manuscript is huge — the publisher estimates the hardcover edition will run more than 900 pages, putting it about the same length as the longest book in the series, A Storm of Swords. Schedule your summer vacation accordingly.
The book is not actually done yet, but apparently the publisher is confident Martin will meet the deadline. We’ll see.
UPDATE 10:12 EST: Martin confirms that July 12, 2011 is a “hard date” and the book WILL be published on that day.

as someone said on the EW comments, July 12th of what year? I hate to sounds like spoilsport, but wasn’t the last rumored release date Sept/Oct of this year? the fact that they moved it UP sounds fishy.
so I suppose that means ARCs would be going out any day?
I’m skeptical as well. But with Martin’s confirmation and statement that Jul 12, 2011 is a hard date, I’m less skeptical than usual.
On his own site, Martin said July 12th of this year.
We shall see.
well now I feel like a bit of shit. it’s right on his website.

with a countdown clock.
Isn’t this the same manuscript that Martin said was essentially done when he published the last book in this series a few years ago?
