Since I am a Tor.com blogger, I felt it only right that I mention to you readers that the site is one-year old today, and that they are giving away a ton of stuff and having some really awesome posts all week. My editor there sent me this info on what’s going on:
Starting at midnight 7/19, we’re going to have prize giveaways every hour on the hour. These prizes range from the silly (plush Cthulhu) to the awesome (an official Star Wars lightsaber). Other gifts include a copy of Absolute Watchmen, Coraline on Blu-Ray/DVD, and a signed copy of Revolution: The Art of Jon Foster (which is out of print and goes for around $80 on the used market).
That’s really just the beginning. Tor.com launched on July 20th for a reason: because it’s moon landing day. And since today marks the 40th Anniversary of that landmark event, I asked authors, illustrators, critics, and fans from the science fiction community to write about what they were doing on that day and how it informed their relationship with science fiction. Throughout the day tomorrow, from midnight to midnight, I’ll be posting the stories from such luminaries as C.J. Cherryh, Harry Harrison, Michael Swanwick, Robert Silverberg, Frederik Pohl, and about two dozen others.
I checked out the site earlier and they also have Star Wars Legos to give away (I already have this one or would enter) and lots of posts by various SF types write about “Where I Was…on July 20, 1969″ for the moon landing – which celebrates its 40th anniversary today.
