“Churches of all denominations seemed to be in decline, desperately stripping out the supernatural wonder for some modernist sense of community that made them seem like dull Oxfam working parties.” Mark Chadbourn, World’s End, Age of Misrule Book 1
Though this quote is only peripherally related to the thrust of this story of magic returning to the world, I thought it had a particular depth and insight. As a person of the church going variety, I think Chadbourn has succinctly pointed out the problem of much church life these days.
On another note, I’m about 153 pages into this novel, and am completely captivated by the storytelling.
