So yesterday, somewhere in the wee hours of the morning, this little blog crossed the 100,000 hits mark.
Sadly, I was asleep and was unable to watch the counter creep faster and faster towards the mark (I rate sleep my higher on my priority list than blogging) and missed out on that feeling of anticipation akin to watching a ball drop on New Year’s Eve.
But all that is really beside the point. It is quite exciting to know that from my humble beginnings tucked away in a tiny corner of the internet, on a blog hosted by a no-name blog hosting company called Terrablogs, and with no knowledge of web design, html, or css – I have managed to become a blog people want to visit.
I truly owe that to you. In particular, Tia Nevitt deserves applause for finding one of my humble (and terrible) initial reviews and encouraging me to post more. But the thanks also goes to all of you who read this blog, those authors and publishers who took a chance on a no-name reviewer. Look what your support has wrought!
So thanks to all of you who read this blog. I hope you continue to read, tell your friends, and keep contributing your own thoughts and ideas to the internet, whether here or elsewhere.
I did want to let you know that in the time since this blog began, I have expanded my internet footprint and point you to some of the other places out there where you can find my reviews and commentary.
First off is Tor.com. This publisher related blog asked me to become a contributor back in December, and since that time i have posted a few thoughts on SF and Fantasy.
Secondly, I joined the twitter revolution a while back, and was fortunate enough to be asked by N. E. Lilly, editor of the twitter ‘zine Thaumatrope to write 140 character reviews on a regular basis. So subscribe to Thaumatrope’s Twitter feed and enjoy my reviews for the short attention span.
Thirdly, I now review for a print publication called Sacramento Book Review. Currently only released in the Sacramento and San Francisco area (at Borders and elsewhere) it is a free print publication that covers all genres of books. These Publisher’s Weekly style reviews are quite helpful, and are almost all written by reader volunteers. (And they are always looking for more
.
Fourthly, I also write reviews for The Fix, and online book review ‘zine dedicated to SF and Fantasy Short Fiction. It is a wonderful resource for anyone who likes short fiction, having a lot more than just reviews. I’m just a reviewer, but it sure is nice to work with all these professional folks at The Fix.
Lastly, I am also writing for several other publications, though right now I am not at liberty to discuss which ones as my work has not yet appeared and/or I am still in negotiations with the respective parties.
So as you can see, from my lowly beginnings just a few short years ago. I’ve come a long way. It’s been fun, its been stressful, its been exciting, but mostly it has been rewarding. All of the rewards I owe to you – the reader. So thank you for reading, I hope to continue to provide the same great content for years to come.
