Grasping for the Wind

Fire Destroys David Eddings’ Office

While working on his car in his garage, he made a foolish mistake and burned down the garage and much of his office. This is sad for him and his family, but fortunately no one was hurt.
Eddings said of the event “‘One word comes to mind,’ the renowned wordsmith said as he stood in a pajama shirt and slippers. ‘Dumb.’”
More scary though is his apparent age. I had no idea he was so old, perhaps that’s why his last series was poorly written. This might also be because his wife is no longer able to help him, having lost her voice after a series of strokes.
I feel sorry for the two of them, I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed their books. (Save the most recent series, which I still bought because I am overly loyal.)
